The Hydronic Fluid

Back to Hydronic Heating

RBA Mechanical is your local Edmonton and Sherwood Park expert on hydronic heat transfer fluid.

The backbone of all hot water heating systems is the hydronic fluid.

The fluid flowing in your hydronic hot water heating system is generally the most neglected component in the system and yet, it is responsible for transferring the heat throughout the system to heat your home or building. It operates the same as the blood in your body.

The hydronic heating system fluid can be water, or can contain freeze protection glycol.

  • If your hydronic heating system contains water, treatments must be added to ensure your fluid is corrossion free and no bacteria growth has developed. You can also add freeze protection to any hydronic heating system.
  • If your system already contains freeze protection glycol, it must be maintained to ensure the strength of the freeze protection and to ensure it remains corrossion free and in good health.
Know the health and condition of your hydronic heat transfer fluid, and get it tested now.

Our heat transfer specialist will meet you at your home or building site, and withdraw a sample of the hydronic fluid. The sample will be professionally analysed by a Lab in Edmonton. Once completed, you will receive a copy of the analysis and a quote to complete the necessary repairs.

Lab analysis is a flat rate fee of $150.00 + gst

You can purchase your lab analysis directly online and pay only $135.00 + gst. Click on the Buy Now Button to purchase online.

The effects of poor hot water heat transfer fluid are:

  • poor heat conductivity
  • reduced heat output capacity
  • poor circulation
  • system bacteria
  • pipe freezing ruptures
  • acidic (low ph) fluid
  • corrosion on the inside of pipes, valves, and other components
  • deteriorates the piping joints causing leaks
  • plugs up pipes, pumps & components causing flow issues
  • the boiler works harder increasing maintenance and operating costs
  • the system will become noisy
  • will cause premature and frequent component failures

Add freeze protection to your hydronic heating system.

We offer free estimates to add freeze protection to your home or building. We can add freeze protection to any hydronic heating system including indoor spaces and outdoor spaces such as snow melt systems.

Why add freeze protection?

Freeze protection prevents your heating pipes from freezing and rupturing which causes very costly repairs or insurance claims. Heat transfer glycol is injected into your home or building which is circulated and purged throughout your hydronic heating system.

Request a free quote to add freeze protection glycol to your existing hydronic heating system. Residential or commercial.

The hydronic fluid is the most important component in your hydronic heating system, and should be lab tested annually to ensure clean and healthy transfer fluid.
