Cooling Problem in Radiant Heated Home - 2010 to 2011
How it Started:

In 2007, we completed a full home radiant heat system complete with snow melt.  A year later, a cooling system had been installed by a Fan Coil Contractor.  And in late winter/early Spring of 2010 we completed some zoning upgrades for this Client.

The current problem:  The Cooling system had been installed using a fan coil with an outdoor condensor and indoor evaporator.  The cooling system is constinuously failing and freezing up.  This was a continuous issue through the summer of 2009 and still in 2010.

Client has asked for an Assesment of the problem with possible resolutions.....

Resolutions:

Besides the fact, that the a/c system is missing some minor, but very important, components, the control system used for the fan coil was not integrated with the radiant system.  When the cooling comes on, so does the radiant.  The sizing of the installed eqiupment and materials were not compatible with this home's cooling load.  Not to mention, the refrigerent in the system is low, and we found fuses and loose electrical wiring everywhere.

We must accept the materials that have already been installed behind walls and in ceilings.  The required cooling componets were installed, the nasty electrical wiring was fixed, and all those fuses removed.  We even found the freeze stat wired in on the wrong side of the terminal board.

In the Spring of 2011 we tested all the new cooling repairs, and found now working great.  The client has never been so happy....
